FORWARD Introduces Child Motherhood Campaign

This year, on Mother’s Day 2015 FORWARD introduced our new campaign with the mission to:

Make Child Mothers Count!

More than 700 million women around the world today were married before the age of 18. Child marriage is a human rights violation that disproportionately affects girls. It is known to adversely affect the future of girls, with many dropping out of school and becoming mothers before they, or their bodies, are ready to do so. In recent years there has been a growing interest in addressing child marriage, among the international development community.

FORWARD is one of those organisations – we have been working with child brides in Africa for over 16 years, carrying out projects to raise awareness of human rights, harmful practices and access to maternal health services. Our experience has shown us that one group is regrettably left behind in the focus around ending child marriage – child mothers. Child mothers may be married or unmarried.

The Campaign will be launched on the International Day of the African Child, 16th of June, and will be followed by 3 years of campaign action and fundraising to make child mothers count!
