"Think Again" Film premiere (a FORWARD youth film)19 Feb 2010 We are delighted to invite you to the event Together we can which will premiere an innovative film written, directed, and produced by young people. Friday 19th February 6.00-9.00pm BackgroundOver the past 5 months, 20 young women aged between 11-23 have worked together to produc a short film entitled Think Again to educate their peers and community about female genital mutilation (FGM). FGM is the partial or total removal of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. It is a cultural practice which, to date, has affected 140 million women and girls. Despite an estimated 24,000 girls at risk of FGM in the UK there remains little awareness, particularly amongst young people. EventThe launch event Together We Can provides a platform for young people's voices to be heard, breaking the silence surrounding FGM. This evening of education and entertainment includes presentations and poems by the young people involved, an interactive quiz, the film screening, Q&A, great food and cultural dancing!! Come along to enjoy it with us and support the young women's campaign to be the generation that inspires change! This youth-led initiative coordinated by FORWARD in partnership with the African Women's Welfare Group (AWWG). Funding was supported by Media Box, Esmee Fairbairn, Pathways2Citizenship (muslim Aid) |
