The exhibition, based on her stay in East Africa with the peoples of the Hamer tribe in the Omo river valley, is being held at the Square One Gallery, 592 Kings Road London, from October 3rd - 27th 2006.

3 Oct 2006 - Monday October 2nd 2006 saw a second Female Genital Mutliation (FGM)prosecution in Sweden. A 42 year old Somali woman was convicted for taking her daughter from Sweden to Somalia in 2002 to undego FGM. Earlier this year another man was convicted under the same FGM law.

6 Jul 2006 - A new study to estimate the prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) within England and Wales is currently being undertaken. The research was initiated last year by FORWARD founder Efua Dorkenoo and is being conducted in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and City University. As well as providing an estimated figure for the number of women in England and Wales who have undergone some form of FGM the data is also aiming to provide a crude estimate of girls under the age of 15 who are at risk of FGM in England and Wales.

This project seeks to empower young people to take action against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the several London boroughs. By expanding FORWARD’s youth wing, it is hoped that this project will nurture a new generation of young people who are empowered with the necessary skills and motivation to continue FORWARD’s work of promoting the health and rights of girls and women from black and minority ethnic, (BME) communities including FGM practising communities.

9 Jun 2006 - A WHO study on Female genital Mutilation (FGM) and Obstetric outcomes was published in the Lancet medical journal. The paper is the largest, most controlled study ever undertaken on the implications of FGM for the obstetric care of women affected. FORWARD founder Efua Dorkenoo was a contributor to this significant research.

A new study published by the World Health Organization (WHO) has shown that women who have had Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) are significantly more likely to experience difficulties during childbirth and that their babies are more likely to die as a result of the practice.

22 Feb 2006 - In February of this year FORWARD was delighted to be awarded a grant from The Sigrid Rausing Trust for a new programme to use the film MOOLAADE as an advocacy tool with which to tackle FGM and promote action for the realisation of the reproductive and sexual rights of girls and women in Africa. This programme 'Advancing the Human Rights of African Girls' is expected to initially begin in Sudan with projects in Ethiopia and Tanzania to follow.
