FORWARD operates in East and West Africa in partnership with local organisations to respond to FGM, child marriage, sexual abuse and obstetric fistula with the aim of fulfilling sexual and reproductive health and rights of girls and women.
Our programmes seek to develop leadership capacity and skills of vulnerable girls and young women, including establishing young women led programmes. We enable young women and girls access support services and information; and strengthen their voice and visibility through research, networking and economic opportunities. We also provide training, practical resources, alliance building and financial support to project partners.
Ghana:
We support Purim African Youth Development Platform on a school sexual harassment project and young women's leadership programme.
Liberia and Sierra Leone:
We work with the International Planned Parenthood Federation Member Association in Liberia on a “Girls at Risk Project" targeting pregnant girls, child mothers and vulnerable girls in resource poor urban setting.
Tanzania:
We work through Children's Dignity Forum on taking action against child marriage and FGM in Tarime district in Tanzania. A new girls' movement “Tunaweza" which means we can in Swahili is a direct result of this three year partnership.
