FORWARD's FGM Research, Publications and Resource CentreOne of FORWARD's main functions is to provide and disseminate accurate and up-to-date information, advice and resources related to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). FORWARD publishes and distributes this material to professionals, community workers and the general public. FORWARD's Research and PublicationsFemale Genital Mutilation is a sensitive issue and the practise is thus poorly researched. FORWARD has attempted to fill this gap by conducting and disseminating various studies in order to improve knowledge on FGM and inform policy and programming, as well as to identify sensitive approaches that integrate the gender and human rights dimensions of FGM. Areas researched include FGM prevalence and impact in the UK, attitudes to and knowledge of FGM amongst practicing communities in the UK and their perceived access to health care facilities, inter-agency policies and procedures relating to FGM in England and Wales, and FGM knowledge, attitudes and responses by health professionals. These include case studies in London, Manchester and Birmingham. FORWARD's publications also include FGM guides for professionals, and reports of the proceedings of conferences and Inter-Agency and NGO Forums related to FGM and child marriage. Also available to purchase from FORWARD's publication list are various non-FORWARD FGM publications. FORWARD and the Forum on Marriage and the Rights of Women and Girls have also produced a number of publications on child marriage which are also available on the FORWARD Publication List. FORWARD's Video libraryFORWARD has a collection of videos related to FGM that are available on loan, and some for purchase. The collection of documentaries and dramas cover a variety of issues related to FGM and these videos are ideal training resources. Click here to access FORWARD's FGM video list. When the FORWARD resource library has opened (see below) it will be possible for visitors to view some of these videos in the safe and private environment of our resource centre. FORWARD's Resource CentreFORWARD is currently in the process of establishing an FGM resource centre at our office in London, which will be an extensive collection of publications, articles and various other materials relating to FGM. The resource centre will be a free service that is open to the general public. It will also be possible to view videos from our FGM video library at the centre. Unfortunately the resource centre is not yet ready due to funding constraints. If you would like to support this work then please donate to FORWARD, specifying that your donation is for this purpose. We are also seeking volunteers to assist us with the development of the resource centre. If you have experience of librarianship and/ or designing library classification systems and have some free time then please volunteer.
