New Study: Journeys of Community Champions
This study, part of a partnership project led by FORWARD and Refugee Women of Bristol, explores how Community Champions tackle violence against women and girls (VAWG) and the barriers women face in accessing health, welfare and justice. Over the past decade, we have trained over 450 women across the UK to become Community Champions and peer educators.
These brilliant women provide an invaluable lifeline within African diaspora and migrant communities, raising awareness and challenging stigma surrounding VAWG, offering legal advocacy, service signposting and essential peer support. Their leadership has created meaningful change at community level, while also strengthening their own skills, confidence and capacity to act in the fight against all forms of VAWG.
Journeys of Community Champions highlights their work in practice, presents a practical framework, shares Champions’ own testimonials, and sets out recommendations for building effective peer-led networks in other contexts.
