Christmas Appeal, Freetown Fire

Christmas Appeal, Freetown Fire

As some prepare for the warmth and joy of Christmas, our hearts turn toward another tragedy affecting our sisters in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

On 2nd December, at 11:45 pm, a devastating fire swept through a densely populated area of Gray Bush, Freetown. Fifty people were affected. Among them were 17 young women from our partner organisation Girl 2 Girl Empowerment Network (G2G). FORWARD has been supporting G2G since they were established in 2013.

This fire is one of many that have struck Sierra Leone, particularly Freetown in the past 2 years.

Many school-going girls have lost their uniforms, books, school bags, shoes, and materials for their first semester exams. Many were unable to take their exams on the day.

One girl was found by the G2G team as she stood in the ruins of her home, crying over the ashes of her school notebooks and whispering, “How will I go back to school now?”

This Christmas, we are asking for your support.

Your generosity can help provide:

  • Emergency relief for displaced girls and their families
  • School materials and transport for the network members in school
  • Counselling and emotional support for those affected by this trauma and loss
