When a child mother is given a second chance, her opportunities are boundless. But the reality is that for many girls in Africa, child motherhood can take away their bright futures. In Tanzania, child mothers are expelled from state education. Illiteracy, poverty and stigma often follow. Child motherhood also increases the risk of pregnancy complications, child marriage and other forms of gender-based violence. COVID-19 has worsened this already-dire situation, with many girls being further exposed to child motherhood and marriage.
