Become a change agent in FGM affected communities

FORWARD (Foundation for Women’s Health Research and Development) is a partner in the CHANGE project, co-funded by the European Union and co-ordinated by TERRE DES FEMMES Germany.

In this project, we are looking for 12 ‘change agents’ working with their communities on the issue of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The goal of the project is to promote behaviour change towards the eradication of FGM in practising communities across Europe.

Profile of Change Agents:

  • influential members within African communities
  • living in London
  • should be at least 18 years
  • having roots in a country with a high FGM prevalence rate
  • willing to facilitate change within his or her communities
  • they could be men and women, young and elderly peoples and of any educational and professional background
  • fair knowledge of English is required

Duty of Change Agents:

  • participation in the programme from October 2013 – December 2014
  • participation in four training sessions (2 weekends and 2 extra days)
  • advocate for the abandonment of FGM
  • encourage behaviour change about FGM
  • participate in 10 monthly meetings of the Change Agents, one meeting per month
  • support and motivation of other Change Agents
  • dialogue with key professionals
  • organise at least 3 behaviour change activities

Costs that will be covered for Change Agents:

A total of £850 is available for each Change Agent for participation/ organisation in the following meetings/ trainings:

  • 4 trainings: 2 x weekends and 2 x extra days
  • 10 meetings of change agents
  • 3 behaviour change activities (basic material will be provided)
  • 1 training for key professionals
  • contribution to a training manual

Some Change Agents might also be selected as speakers for training sessions or public conferences.
