India: Four Arrested Under Child Marriage Act

The police today arrested four persons for marrying off a 13-year-old girl in Patiala, thus, violating the Child Marriage (Restrained) Act.

The four relatives of the bridegroom – Major alias Manager Singh, his father Shamsher Singh, of Kanda village in Naraingarh Tehsil of Ambala and the girl’s father Chaman Lal, a resident of B-Tank area of Patiala’s old walled town and the matchmaker have been arrested.

DSP Sharanjit Singh said the police received information about the wedding and raided the place. A case under sections 4, 6, 7 of the Child Marriage (Restrained) Act, has been registered.
