TuWezeshe 2024: Apply Now!

We are now accepting applications for our 2024 TuWezeshe Akina Dada young women’s leadership programme.

TuWezeshe Akina Dada, Swahili for ‘empowering our sisters’, is our feminist leadership programme aiming to inspire the next generation of young African women, giving them the skills, visibility and capacity to actively participate in civil and political spheres, and fight against all forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG).

During this one-year programme, the young women involved will be mentored by established female leaders, build core leadership skills and receive funding to initiate their own social action projects. They’ll also learn how they can shape the agenda on VAWG, network, and voice themselves on both national and international platforms. As well as this, our TuWezeshe Akina Dada programme is also designed to build bridges between East Africa and UK African Diaspora.

The TuWezeshe programme is led by FORWARD in partnership with implementing partners across the UK, Africa and Europe, including Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) in Uganda, Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel (SSAP) in Wales and Scotland, Children’s Dignity Forum (CDF) in Tanzania, Think Young Women in The Gambia, and End FGM European Network in Europe.
